Global Grain Production: Record Highs Amid Regional Challenges

The International Grains Council (IGC) forecasts global grain production for the 2024/25 season at 2,311 million tonnes, marking a slight decline from earlier estimates but still near record levels. Despite this overall robust production, regional variations and challenges are emerging:

Wheat Production

  • Global wheat production is expected to be the second-largest on record, with notable increases in output from South Asia (India and Pakistan) and parts of the Near East (Iraq and Iran)

  • The European Union is forecast to see an 11% increase in soft wheat production, reaching 126.6 million tonnes in 2025, up from 114.2 million tonnes in 2024
